Biography

Kelli Anderson is an Assistant Professor of Counseling and Director of the Clinical Mental Health Counseling Program at the »Æ¹ÏÊÓƵ, where she teaches across the counseling curriculum and coordinates the graduate internship program. A Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and National Certified Counselor (NCC), she earned both her Ph.D. and M.A. in Counselor Education and Supervision from Oakland University. Clinically, Anderson has extensive experience supporting individuals and families navigating trauma, anxiety, depression, and major life transitions, with particular expertise in the unique challenges of family court and child custody disputes.

Anderson’s research examines the systemic forces that shape high conflict family dynamics, the impact of trauma on children and clinicians, counselor wellness, and innovative approaches to teaching and supervision. She has authored multiple peer-reviewed publications and presented her work at state and national conferences. Her scholarship includes the development of a formal model of parallel parenting for high conflict families, an adaptation of trauma-focused CBT for children involved in custody disputes, and studies of bullying, bystander behavior, and barriers to conflict resolution.  She is passionate about mentoring graduate students and frequently includes them as co-authors and collaborators on research projects.

An active contributor to the counseling profession, Anderson serves on the editorial boards of the Journal of Counselor Preparation and Supervision and the Journal of Counselor Practice and reviews for Counselor Education and Supervision. She also maintains a private practice providing clinical supervision for newly licensed counselors. She joined the »Æ¹ÏÊÓƵ in 2022.
