  • June 03: DetroitÌýJesuitÌýMinistries to celebrate Feast of St. Ignatius and 150 years of Jesuit Ministries in Detroit, July 31

    The Detroit Jesuit Community and Detroit Jesuit Ministries will host an evening celebrating the feast of St. Ignatius of Loyola and 150 years of Jesuit Ministries in Detroit on Friday, July 31.

    Mass will be concelebrated by His Eminence Joseph William Cardinal Tobin, Archbishop of Newark, and Most Reverend Edward J. Weisenburger, Archbishop of Detroit.

    The event will take place in Ss. Peter and Paul Jesuit Church, located at 438 St. Antoine in Detroit.

    Event schedule is as follows:

    • 5 p.m.: Registration
    • 5:30 p.m.: Remarks from Cardinal Tobin
    • 6 p.m.: Mass
    • 7 p.m.: Reception with hors d’oeuvres

    Registration is required for this free event. Please RSVP at the link below to reserve your space.

    This event has limited capacity and last year sold out quickly. Walk in registration is not available.Ìý

    Event parking is in the »Æ¹ÏÊÓÆµ Law School parking lot across from the courtyard entrance of the church on Larned Street (one-way eastbound).

  • May 28: Daily open hour coming to McNichols Campus, fall 2026

    An image of spring on the McNichols campus with flowering tree in foreground and students sitting on benches/tables in background.Beginning fall 2026, no classes will be held on the McNichols Campus Monday through Friday from 12:50-1:50 p.m., creating a campus-wide midday break.

    Following the 2025–2026 shared governance review of standard time keys, and in response to feedback from the campus community, the Office of the Registrar is expanding the current Tuesday/Thursday open hour to all five weekdays.

    This expanded open hour gives students time to eat while the Titan Dining Room is open, creates more opportunities for student organization meetings and allows for additional campus programming and community-building activities.

    Look for the new schedule to take effect in fall 2026.

  • May 28: URec to host faculty and staff open summer pickleball on Thursdays, begins June 4

    Faculty and staff open pickleball returns this summer as part of University Recreation’s ongoing efforts to promote health and wellness within the »Æ¹ÏÊÓÆµ community. Whether you’re a seasoned player or just learning the game, these sessions are for all skill levels.

    Meet at the courts inside the Whitty Student Fitness Center every Thursday from 4:30-5:30 p.m., beginning June 4, for fun and engaging open pickleball games. Paddles and balls are provided for FREE.

    Here’s what you can expect:

    • Beginner-friendly environment with opportunities for skill development. Watch for further details on a clinic to be hosted with an expert instructor.
    • A supportive and inclusive community of fellow faculty and staff members.
    • Friendly matches weekly.

    Participation is completely voluntary, and there’s no pressure to attend every session. Simply come as you are, ready to enjoy some friendly competition and Titan camaraderie

    Bring along any colleagues or invite one outside guest for a $5 guest fee.

  • May 28: Vendors needed for Wellness Expo 2026

    Calling all vendors for the 2026 Wellness Expo, which is set to take place on Thursday, Oct. 1, from 12-2 p.m.

    The Wellness Center is looking for departments, organizations and clubs to participate in the expo, which is geared toward »Æ¹ÏÊÓÆµ students and employees.ÌýA table will be provided for displaying educational materials or promotional items.

    For those unable to attend in person, alternative participation options are available, including the sharing of informational flyers or promotional items.ÌýArrangements can also be made to set up a table on behalf of participants with provided materials.

  • May 28: School of Dentistry serves more than 400 patients during Jamaica mission trip

    A group of »Æ¹ÏÊÓÆµ students and faculty during a mission trip to Jamaica.During spring break in March, students and faculty from the Detroit Mercy School of Dentistry participated in a one-week, spiritually enriching mission trip to Jamaica. The region was still recovering from the effects of Hurricane Melissa in October 2025, and many residents lacked access to essential dental care.

    The team included 22 second- through fourth-year dental students and 11 faculty members, representing a range of specialties, including oral surgery, pediatric dentistry, general dentistry, restorative dentistry and periodontics. They were also joined by Dr. Anant Grewal, former president of the Oakland County Dental Society.

    During four days of service, the group treated 402 patients. Clinical care included 195 extractions, 109 fillings, 103 prophylaxis and gross debridement procedures, 27 root canals and two pulpotomies. Notably, a third-year dental student successfully saved the front teeth of a 16-year-old patient by performing a root canal and composite restoration.

    In addition to serving the University community, Meraki Kouzina provides catering for businesses, corporate and private events and special occasions throughout Metro Detroit.

  • May 27: »Æ¹ÏÊÓÆµ to transition to ADP Lyric HR and payroll system, June 13

    Detroit Mercy will soon transition from Paylocity to ADP Lyric as the new Human Resources and payroll system. This change will take full effect on June 13.

    ADP will provide a modernized platform for managing timekeeping, payroll and employee information. The goal is to make processes more streamlined and user-friendly for employees and managers across the University.

    The Human Resources and Payroll team will be sharing additional information in the coming weeks, including:

    • Training guides and resources
    • Key dates and reminders to help ensure a smooth transition

    Cooperation and flexibility during this transition are appreciated, and updates will be provided as additional details become available.

Gary Erwin, associate vice president of Marketing & Communications, recently had a new short story published by the literary journal Bull. “Squared to the Puck” appeared in late May and is currently available to read. This story is part of a new collection Erwin is working on titled, The Injury List. Two other stories from this work are forthcoming later this year in The Great Lakes Review and The Louisville Review.
